Muppet*Vision 3D closing June 8; Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster adding Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Muppet*Vision 3D is closing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, replaced by “Monsters, Inc.” Additionally, the Muppets will now star in Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Updated Jan. 24, 2025; original version published Nov. 22, 2024.
Muppet*Vision closing date announced
Muppet*Vision 3D will permanently close on June 8, 2025 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios near Orlando, Fla. The Walt Disney World attraction’s final day of operation will be June 7, 2025.
The same goes for PizzeRizzo, the quick-service Muppets restaurant adjacent to Muppet*Vision. PizzeRizzo will close on June 8, with its final operating day being June 7. Nearby, the table-service Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will close May 11, with its final operating day being May 10. A few shops in the area have already been closed for years, only reopening during seasonal events.
Disney shared these timelines with Attractions Magazine on Jan. 24, 2025. Beginning June 8, the entire Muppets Courtyard area will be inaccessible to guests.

As previously announced, the “Monsters, Inc.”-themed land in development for Disney’s Hollywood Studios (complete with a suspended roller coaster) will replace Muppet*Vision 3D and the surrounding area of the park nearby that longstanding attraction. Disney has not shared an opening date for this project.

Additionally, also revealed earlier, the Muppets will star in a new version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (details below). Disney has not announced a timeline for that attraction’s transition yet.

Here’s a look at the concept art for the future of the Muppet*Vision space, with our annotations for what’s currently in the park. Yellow boxes indicate what will be changed, while blue boxes indicate what will stay the same as this area transitions as part of Muppet*Vision 3D closing.

Here’s a slightly zoomed-in view from approximately the same angle, captured by bioreconstruct several years ago (before the Muppet*Vision balloon was dismantled).

Now here’s a look at an aerial photo of this same area from August 2024, but with the angle flipped:

Disney Parks Chairperson Josh D’Amaro and “Monsters, Inc.” star Billy Crystal announced the Monstropolis land last August at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, but had stopped short of saying specifically where within Hollywood Studios the new attractions would be located. Disney confirmed Muppet*Vision’s closure on Nov. 22, 2024, saying, “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film [Muppet*Vision 3D] and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”

FAQ: Muppet*Vision 3D closing

What’s replacing Muppet*Vision 3D?
“A whole new theater show” will be introduced inside the building that currently houses Muppet*Vision 3D as part of the “Monsters, Inc.” land.
Disney has not shared further details about this forthcoming attraction. Concept art (released Nov. 22, 2024) shows the building being named “The Monstro” and advertising “Late-Night Screams.”

Nearby, a newly erected building will house a suspended roller coaster themed to the climactic doors chase sequence in 2001’s “Monsters, Inc.”

What will the ‘Monsters, Inc.’ doors coaster be like?
The doors-themed attraction (name TBA) will be the first suspended roller coaster in a Disney theme park, meaning the track is above riders rather than below them.

Picking up after the events of Pixar Animation Studios’ beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of “Monsters, Inc.” — and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. But it’s not a true visit without the factory itself. You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs, and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!

What else will be in the Monstropolis land?
Themed dining and shopping will be part of the “Monsters, Inc.” land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in addition to the doors roller coaster and the theater show. Disney has not formally announced these dining and shopping experiences, but concept art depicts Harryhausen’s, a sushi restaurant from the film.

Is anything else besides Muppet*Vision 3D closing for ‘Monsters Inc.’?
The area of Grand Avenue surrounding Muppet*Vision 3D will be repurposed to fit the theme of Monstropolis. Based on the concept art, this means the following will close and/or be repurposed:
- Muppet*Vision 3D
- Stage 1 Company Store (former Muppet shop; recently only open for special events)
- PizzeRizzo (quick-service restaurant)
- Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano (table-service restaurant)
- The Christmas space formerly known as It’s a Wonderful Shop (used in recent years for Santa meet & greets)
Is the Laugh Floor moving to Hollywood Studios?
The facts: Disney specifically noted that Muppet*Vision 3D’s replacement will be “a whole new theater show.” This is supported in the concept art, but the same piece of artwork also displays a billboard that says “Laugh Floor” and featuring Mike Wazowski. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor — the theater show in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland starring Mike — was not mentioned in Disney’s announcements.

Speculation: The billboard could be an in-universe advertisement for Monsters, Inc.’s laugh floor services rather than a Laugh Floor theme park attraction. It’s also just concept art, and may not even indicate the finished product. In any case, it seems unlikely that the Laugh Floor would move parks and the new theater show replacing Muppet*Vision 3D is probably unrelated.
FAQ: Muppets coming to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
What’s replacing Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith?
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster itself isn’t going anywhere, but the ride experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will change from its current version. Disney will add Muppets to the attraction and drop the “starring Aerosmith” from the ride’s formal name, with it simply becoming “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.” Notably, Disney has not specifically mentioned that Aerosmith will be removed; just that Muppets will be added.
The ride’s new logline reads: “The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”

When is the current version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith closing?
Disney has not announced a timeline for this project.
How long will Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster be closed to add the Muppets?
Disney has not announced a timeline for this project.

Which Muppets will be part of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster?
Concept art depicts the following Muppets, though more could be involved:
- Kermit the Frog
- Miss Piggy
- The Electric Mayhem band
- Dr. Teeth
- Janice
- Floyd Pepper
- Zoot
- Lips
- Animal
The Electric Mayhem is the resident house band of “The Muppet Show” and first appeared together in 1975, according to DK Publishing’s “The Muppets Character Encyclopedia” by Craig Shemin.
In 2016, the Electric Mayhem performed live at the Outside Lands Music Festival. They starred in their own Disney+ series, “The Muppets Mayhem,” in 2023.

What will the new songs be on the updated Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster?
“New tunes” will be part of the Muppets’ version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but Disney has not announced which songs will be featured, nor whether those will be part of the Muppets’ catalogue or hail from the song library of the to-be-announced celebrity musicians who are part of the project.
Looking ahead and looking back
Muppet*Vision 3D opened in 1991. The film was the final project Jim Henson worked on prior to his death.

Also in the works for Hollywood Studios is a new Disney Villains show and a new version of the park’s former “Little Mermaid” show, both opening in summer 2025.
