Haunted Mansion debuts new bride, attic scene changes at Disneyland
Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion will introduce a new version of the bride character in a reimagined attic scene.

A central character in the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. will take on a new look and personality when the attraction reopens from refurbishment on Jan. 18, 2025. Walt Disney Imagineering updated the technology and backstory for the bride in the Haunted Mansion’s attic scene, as reported in the Los Angeles Times on Jan. 17.
The bride now appears to levitate and has a more somber facial expression. This contrasts to the previous version of the character, who held an axe — the weapon she used to murder her husbands — and looked at riders with a sinister glee in her eyes. Here’s the before and after:

The reimagined Haunted Mansion bride scene effectively changes the storyline for the ride. Instead of being a murderer, the bride is now a mourner.
Instead of an axe, the bride now holds a candelabra, which “is identical to the one visible floating in an earlier hall scene, now implying the bride is broodingly wandering the Mansion,” wrote reporter Todd Martens in the LA Times. “Additionally, the candelabra will appear a third time, materializing in a cemetery crypt in the ride’s final act.”

These changes pertain to Haunted Mansion at Disneyland in California only, not Walt Disney World in Florida.
Last month, another new version of the bride materialized as a mermaid ghost inside The Haunted Mansion Parlor, a lounge onboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship. Take a look at The Haunted Mansion Parlor in our video tour:
