LA28 Olympic Games: One sport will be played at Universal Studios Hollywood on the set of ‘Back to the Future’
Los Angeles is a city known for “urban sprawl,” so it should come as no surprise to anyone that the 2028 Olympic Games will take place in venues that stretch from Trestles in Orange County (shouted out by the Beach Boys in Surf City U.S.A.) to the home of reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers to an original filming location for “Back to the Future.”

Squash will make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Games, but if you weren’t excited about the racket sport before, we’ve got news that may change your mind because the elite athletes competing in squash will play at one of Hollywood’s most iconic movie locations: Courthouse Square on the Universal Studios Lot.Yes, that’s right. In 2028, squash will be played on the actual set of 1985’s “Back to the Future.”
Thankfully, the Olympic Games in Los Angeles won’t take place until July 14–30, 2028, so if you want to watch world-class athletes compete at the Clock Tower, you still have time to plan. Click here for information about tickets.

“We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. “Los Angeles is the epicenter of sports, culture and entertainment, and every venue selected for the 2028 Games will provide athletes and fans the best possible experience.”
But don’t worry, Disneyland fans, LA28 didn’t forget about you. Volleyball will be held in the Arena in Anaheim, home of the Anaheim Ducks and just a stone’s throw from the Happiest Place on Earth.
Back to the Future: Destination Hill Valley
If you can’t wait until 2028 to set foot in Courthouse Square, you’re in luck. On select nights from April 25 through May 18, 2025, the new Universal Fan Fest Nights after-hours event includes an immersive experience on the famous set.

Event guests will board the Studio Tour “Fan Tram” that will transport them to 1955 Hill Valley, just like Marty McFly in the first “Back to the Future” movie. Fans will also be able to explore Courthouse Square, pose for photos with props, characters, and set pieces, and even cut a rug at The Enchantment Under the Sea dance (where we hear Marty will make a musical appearance onstage).
There will also be an “environmental recreation” of the movie’s pivotal lightning strike several times each night.
