Land of Oz opens at U.K. theme park with flying monkeys ride
Step into the magical Land of Oz at Gulliver’s World in Warrington, U.K., with new family-friendly rides inspired by “The Wizard of Oz.”

Gulliver’s World in Warrington, U.K., unveiled its newest themed area: the enchanting Land of Oz, now open for the 2025 season. Inspired by the tale of “The Wizard of Oz,” this theme park land invites families to follow the Yellow Brick Road into a world of adventure and imagination. This new land brings the world of Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion to life.
With the success of “Wicked” on Broadway and in theaters, it makes sense for more theme parks to utilize some version of the “Wizard of Oz” narrative. For example, in the past, the Land of Oz theme park in North Carolina has held an Autumn at Oz event. In addition, two new “Wizard of Oz” roller coasters opened in 2024: Flight of the Wicked Witch and Kansas Twister, both at Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia.
Universal Destinations & Experiences has capitalized on this with Wicked: The Experience at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood. Even Ariana Grande had some thoughts about using “Wicked” in theme parks.
The Land of Oz at Gulliver’s World

Following this trend, Gulliver’s World in Warrington, U.K., recently opened The Land of Oz. This new area features several family-friendly attractions. Of course, one of these attractions sounds scary for those frightened by the Flying Monkeys in “The Wizard of Oz.”

The three primary attractions at The Land of Oz area include:
- Winged Monkeys Ride – This ride emulates the flight of the iconic winged monkeys from the classic story. Guests can take to the skies on this ride.
- Munchkin Motors – Children can hop into whimsical vehicles and navigate through the colorful world of the Munchkins.
- Upside Down House – Guests can defy gravity in this topsy-turvy attraction where everything is turned on its head, offering a unique and disorienting adventure.

Winged Monkeys Ride in Land of Oz
The most intriguing ride in this area of Gulliver’s World theme park seems to be the Winged Monkeys Ride. The theme park says this about the attraction: “Hold on tight, the Winged Monkeys are taking flight! Climb aboard this sky-high spinning ride and feel the rush as you swoop, swirl, and soar above the magical Land of Oz. With sweeping views and swirling seats, Winged Monkeys is the perfect mix of whimsy and wow.”

Guests must be 120 centimeters (or about 48 inches tall) to ride the Winged Monkeys attraction. They also may not be over 190 centimeters (about 75 inches tall) to ride this attraction. For comparison, that means some members of the Attractions Magazine staff would be too tall to ride this attraction.
