Magic Kingdom adds ‘Smellephants’ to Storybook Circus

Disney has announced the addition of “Smellephants” to Magic Kingdom Park as part of a new interactive search-and-sniff experience.

Smellephant in Magic Kingdom

Through a partnership between Disney and scented products company Scentsy, the Magic Kingdom will be the first park to host the colorful elephant statues that get their unique name from the combination of the words “smell” and “elephant.”

Storybook Circus Smellephants on Parade

According to the Disney Parks Blog, “When entering Storybook Circus, guests will stumble upon a casting call posted by Timothy Q. Mouse, seeking out a “Whiff-sistant” to join Dumbo’s newest act.”

In case you have forgotten, Timothy Q. Mouse is the mouse who mentors young Dumbo in the 1941 animated film of the same name.

The first 'Smellephant' statue has arrived in Magic Kingdom.

Near Big Top Souvenirs in Storybook Circus, Cast Members will be on hand to give guests an illustrated map with accompanying stickers to guide guests through their first task as “Whiff-sistants.” Fortunately, these tasks simply involve finding all eight Smellephant statues around Storybook Circus; however, the map and stickers help guests young, and maybe not-so-young, keep track of which statues they have found and which ones they still need to find.

Scentsy Partnership with Disney

Scentsy has previously had a relationship with the Walt Disney Company that enabled the company to use characters, logos, colors, and names on its scent-related products. In 2021, it was announced that Scentsy was entering a multi-year sponsorship deal with Disney Parks to become the official fragrance of Walt Disney World.

Storybook Circus Smellephant statues will be located throughout the area.

Scentsy has already appeared in Epcot as a sponsor of the “Blossoms of Fragrance” experience during the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.

First Look at Smellephant Statue Unveiled Today

The first Smellephant statue can be seen marching as if in a parade in front of the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction. The mostly yellow statue has red and white striped “pants” and holds a flag with its trunk.

The colorful appearance of this statue is meant to invoke the idea of popcorn, and when guests approach the statue, they can become a “Whiff-sistant” as they breathe in the delightful fragrance of popcorn. As more statues appear in Storybook Circus, other fragrances will include Churro, Cotton Candy, and more.

The experience is free to all guests and is voluntary. Those who may be sensitive to scents “are still welcome and able to enjoy this fun-filled land,” according to Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Experiences. We can only hope this means the scent will remain near the statues themselves and not permeate the entire area of Storybook Circus.
