According to the Universal Orlando Resort website, Volcano Bay will be closed beginning Oct. 26, 2026, reopening on or before March 24, 2027.

Could this mean a new water-based attraction will open in 2027? Will some of the previously removed themed elements return the park? At this point, Universal has not announced specifics about what the closure entails. Still, water attractions demand an extensive refurbishment schedule, so this long closure will make that possible.

When Universal Volcano Bay opened, the park introduced the TapuTapu system, allowing guests to book a time slot to experience the park’s attractions by tapping their free TapuTapu bracelet device. The TapuTapu device is given to guests when they arrive at the water park and returned upon exiting the park. It allows guests to wait in attraction lines virtually and interact with elements throughout the park.

According to Universal, that system will disappear on Oct. 1, 2025. The resort’s website states, “Starting October 1, 2025, the TapuTapu wearable and virtual line will no longer be available. Guests can access attraction queues at their leisure.”

On some days earlier this year, guests arrived at Volcano Bay only to find the TapuTapu system was not in use that day.
