Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser documentary coming fall 2025

A group of the themed hotel’s fans and former guests are developing a commemorative documentary after the closure of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

The new documentary, titled “Halcyon Daze: The Final Voyages of Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser,” will focus on the Walt Disney World attraction’s year-and-a-half long run and the $2,500-per-night experience.

After the resort’s closure in September 2023, fans of the one-of-a-kind “Star Wars”-themed roleplay experience began gathering stories from guests, former cast members, and immersive entertainment experts to compile into one nostalgic documentary for both former guests and newcomers alike to enjoy. The project is unaffiliated with The Walt Disney Company.

“This film is about more than a ‘themed hotel’ — it’s about the bonds that formed among those who stepped aboard and lived through this immersive experience,” said Carrie Coaplen, a four-time Starcruiser guest and director of “Halcyon Daze.” “The Starcruiser may be gone, but its legacy is growing.”

The building where Disney hosted Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser in Orlando is now being repurposed into an office space for Walt Disney Imagineering. There have been no further plans announced to emulate the Starcruiser experience elsewhere on Disney property.

The Galactic Starcruiser documentary is now deep in post-production, per the project’s website, and will release sometime this coming fall. The first test screening is scheduled for July 2025 in Dayton, Ohio.

The documentary team includes director Carrie Coaplen, executive producer Ben Daughtrey, co-editor Kenzie McGreer, producer/lead researcher Carly Kocurek, and co-producer Jonathan Hawpe. The team has been working primarily out of Louisville, Ky., with filming taking place in Orlando and various event/interview locations.
