Three major updates to an ongoing trend
As of April 2, 2025, Roblox rolled out three new major safety updates for parents to help their kids more safely navigate the popular multiplayer video game. These are a few more in a sea of more than 40 updates in the last year.
We talked to Senior Project Manager Dina Lamdany to get all the details on the three latest changes.
“We think about safety as an ongoing journey that we’re continually investing in as long as we’re in business,” Lamdany said. “We’re really excited to hear from parents and from kids about these updates and what features are most important to them.”
What are the updates?
The three updates all focus on giving parent accounts more control over what their kids are and are not allowed to see. Here’s the rundown on each of the updates:
- Friend blocking: Parents will be able to see their child’s friend list, talk to their child about who their friends are and how they know them, and then choose whether to block contact from unsafe players.
- Experience blocking: Parents can view various mini-games (called “experiences” in-game) and choose to block unsafe or inappropriate games for their child’s account.
- Per-Experience screen time insights: Parents can now view the amount of time their child spends on each experience as well as the total time they’ve spent on the game itself.

Parents should play with their kids
Roblox is home to more than 85 million active daily users, so safety has become more important than ever for younger players.
Thus, Lamdany recommends that parents get their own Roblox accounts and play around with the game even before helping their kids make an account, since familiarity with the content is crucial to keeping kids safe.
“We encourage parents to try and understand the specifics of what their kid is doing, and that can help them both set limits on using our tools,” she said.
