Disney ‘archiving’ Muppet*Vision 3D, coming to Disney+?
Muppet*Vision 3D is closing at Walt Disney World, but not before Disney preserves the historic attraction with a professional filming.

The curtain is closing on Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios near Orlando, Fla., as the attraction enters its final days of operation. The last day to experience the show is June 7, 2025. Doing good on a previously shared promise to “preserve” Muppet*Vision, Disney will host a cast member-only event overnight, in the wee hours of the morning on May 14.
Disney shared a message with cast members titled: “Join Us for a Filming Event — Archiving Muppet Vision [sic] 3D!”
The message went on to say:
We invite you to be part of an audience of Walt Disney World cast members as we capture the energy, emotion, and magic of Muppet Vision 3D [sic]. As we prepare to say goodbye to this special show, this cast member exclusive event will give participants the opportunity to experience the show as we preserve and celebrate the legacy that is Muppet Vision 3D [sic].
Disney encourages attendees to wear their favorite Disney/Muppet attire.
Is Muppet*Vision 3D coming to Disney+?
Disney’s message to cast members did not specify how the footage will be utilized in the future. It is unknown at this time if Muppet*Vision pro-shot will wind up on Disney+, physical media, or another means of distribution.
In the past, Disney has occasionally uploaded ride POVs and professionally shot stage shows to the Disney Parks YouTube channel. As recently as May 4, 2025, Disney+ debuted a walk-through of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and an on-ride POV of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

With Muppet*Vision 3D being primarily video-based, one might ask why a filming is necessary. Why not simply publish the source file of the film itself? Doing so would capture part of the experience, yes, but would omit the attraction’s in-theater effects, including but not limited to bubbles, explosions, an orchestra of penguins, Statler and Waldorf in their balcony seats, and, of course, the Swedish Chef firing a cannon.
Muppet*Vision 3D originally debuted in 1991, and was the final project Jim Henson worked on prior to his death.
What’s next for the Muppets
Following Muppet*Vision’s closure, Walt Disney Imagineering will transform Muppet*Vision’s theater and the surrounding area into a “Monsters, Inc.”-themed land, complete with a suspended roller coaster.
Even though Muppet*Vision 3D is closing, the Muppets themselves will be sticking around Hollywood Studios. Disney will add the characters to a reimagined version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which currently stars Aerosmith. The timeline for that transition is TBA; Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster remains open in its Aerosmith form with no announced closing date.
