From high in the sky, bioreconstruct captured another round of aerial photos of Universal Epic Universe construction on Oct. 4, 2024. The new theme park will open in 2025 in Orlando, Fla. (New to Epic Universe? Check out our beginner’s guide.)

Super Nintendo World refresher

As one of the five worlds of Epic Universe, Super Nintendo World will be comprised of two distinct areas: Super Mario Land (with Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and Yoshi’s Adventure) and Donkey Kong Country (with the Mine-Cart Madness roller coaster). Guests will also be able to dine at Toadstool Café, meet Mario and friends in person, and play real-life mini-games throughout Super Nintendo World either through their phone or by purchasing a Power-Up Band.

Previous iterations of Super Nintendo World are already open at Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Hollywood.

Super Mario Land construction at Epic Universe

Onsite at Epic Universe’s Super Nintendo World, construction workers continue to install more character figures to the colorful Mount Beanpole and surrounding elevated platforms throughout Super Mario Land. New residents include a Shy Guy and a Bullet Bill.

Not one, but two castles will flank the plaza, belonging to Peach and Bowser. Both structures are now at the phase in their construction progress of distinctly emulating the personalities of their rulers.

Contractors continue to add more details to the indoor/outdoor Yoshi’s Adventure attraction, including several Yoshis who are, um, getting to know each other quite well.

A new sign marks the location of Turbo Boost Treats, a snack location.

Donkey Kong Country construction at Epic Universe

Consistent with the rest of Epic Universe’s Super Nintendo World, Donkey Kong Country (next door to Super Mario Land) is saturated with vibrant colors. As construction teams add more props and landscaping to this area, it’s easier to see how the “broken track” of the Mine-Cart Madness roller coaster will be concealed from guests’ ground-level viewpoint as the ride vehicles “jump the track.”

Workers recently installed a set of bongo drums, which are expected to be part of the area’s Power-Up Band mini-games.

Arguably the most significant recent addition to Donkey Kong Country is its lush jungle. It ties everything together; while this area looked impressive before, it now is Donkey Kong Country.

Other thematic elements throughout Donkey Kong Country include Funky Kong’s plane (which will be the home of Funky’s Fly ‘n’ Buy, a retail location) and a hut bearing the word “Kong.” As bioreconstruct shared last month, Dixie Kong is now in place along an outdoor portion of the track.

Portal into Super Nintendo World

Guests will enter each world of Epic Universe by stepping through a portal from the Celestial Park central hub. Construction teams recently themed the pipes atop the portal leading into Super Nintendo World with primary colors, and are in the process of creating a star shape on the ground in front of the portal.

Adjacent to the portal is the Nintendo Super Star Store, which has welcomed someone very important to its fountain: Mario!

In addition to Super Nintendo World, the other worlds of Epic Universe are The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe.
