Epic Universe construction update: ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ theming in Isle of Berk
Construction for How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk at Epic Universe progresses with themed props and signage emulating the DreamWorks films.

From high in the sky, bioreconstruct captured another round of aerial photos of Universal Epic Universe construction on Oct. 24, 2024. The new Universal Orlando theme park will open May 22, 2025 in Florida. (New to Epic Universe? Check out our beginner’s guide.)
Today, we’re checking in on How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, where Epic Universe construction crews recently installed uniquely themed props and began work on various infrastructure elements.

Refresher of How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk at Epic Universe
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk will immerse Epic Universe visitors into the Viking village from DreamWorks Animation’s “How to Train Your Dragon” films. The area will include a diverse selection of attractions: two rides (the Hiccup’s Wing Gliders roller coaster and the Fyre Drill boat ride), an indoor stage show (“The Untrainable Dragon”), a character greeting location (Haddock Paddock), two quick-service restaurants (Mead Hall and Spit Fyre Grill), a play area (Viking Training Camp), and shops.
Isle of Berk is one of Epic Universe’s five worlds. The others are Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.
Theming fit for a dragon
As the opening date of Epic Universe nears (just a little over six months away now!), construction workers add fully themed prop elements to various areas of the park, including How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
Take a gander at the catch of the day!

Many guests entering Isle of Berk from the Epic Universe central hub will likely make their way straight to the dragon-focused attractions, but those who take their time may notice an abundance of detailed props inside a pair of boats docked at the edge of the lagoon.

Along the ride path of Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, one of the sheep figures sports a dragon disguise. The others likely will soon.

In the center of a Berk town square of sorts, contractors have begun construction on a fountain. Compare the current progress with Universal’s concept art.

On the other side of Berk, the signage for Spit Fyre Grill has been in place for quite some time now, but construction workers recently furnished it to appear wooden.

Waiting in an outdoor line for an Orlando theme park attraction can be an unforgiving pursuit. The wait for Hiccup’s Wing Gliders will be slightly less humidifying thanks to recently erected canopies above the queue. (Note the netting along the track in the shape of dragon scales; not new for this Epic Universe construction update, but neat nonetheless.)
