Epic Universe construction update: Signage added for Donkey Kong coaster in Super Nintendo World
Construction of Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario Land continue within Super Nintendo World at Universal Epic Universe, opening in 2025.

From high in the sky, bioreconstruct captured another round of aerial photos of Universal Epic Universe construction on Nov. 15, 2024 in Orlando, Fla. Today, we’re focusing on progress of Epic Universe’s Super Nintendo World, where workers recently installed signage for attractions themed to “Donkey Kong Country” and “Mario Kart.”
(New to Epic Universe? Check out our beginner’s guide to the theme park, which opens in 2025.)
Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe = Super Mario Land + Donkey Kong Country
Getting our bearings before we dive into the details, guests will enter Super Nintendo World from Epic Universe’s central hub by stepping through a green warp pipe portal, just out of frame at the bottom left corner of the photo below. Once inside, they can explore Super Mario Land, or venture deeper to visit Donkey Kong Country.

The photo below flips the perspective, with the portal being in the top right corner.

Donkey Kong Country construction
Construction workers installed the entrance marquee and archway for Mine-Cart Madness, the “track-jumping” Donkey Kong roller coaster.

Mine-Cart Madness takes place within the Temple of the Golden Banana, and contractors began removing scaffolding from that temple’s centerpiece figurehead. Artisans also crafted tributes to the Golden Banana throughout the architecture in smaller ways.

Work continues on Donkey Kong’s house — underneath which we expect a meet & greet with the ape of the hour, as will be the case with the similarly built Universal Studios Japan version of Donkey Kong Country, which opens Dec. 11, 2024.

Work has come a long way in a short amount of time. Compare the photo above to the one below, which bioreconstruct captured just a year ago in November 2023.

Super Mario Land construction
Next door to Donkey Kong Country in Super Mario Land, new signage continues to be a theme as construction workers installed the entrance sign for Mario Motors. When Epic Universe opens, Mario Motors will be the exit gift shop for Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, the area’s main attraction.

Continuing through Super Mario Land, the exterior scenes of Yoshi’s Adventure appear nearly complete. The ride vehicles themselves have been onsite for nearly a year now.

Recent additions throughout Super Mario Land included themed bricks, more pink paint on Peach’s castle, and the familiar shape of a mushroom serving as the roof of Toadstool Café, a quick-service restaurant.
