Epic Universe construction update: Toadstool Café in Super Nintendo World preps for diners

Toadstool Café at Epic Universe looks like its namesake — Toad from the Mario games — as Super Nintendo World construction continues in Orlando.

The rooftop of Toadstool Café — a quick-service restaurant at Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Fla. — is now red with white spots, just like the mushroom-like head of Toad himself, as captured in aerial construction photos by bioreconstruct on Dec. 5, 2024.

The eatery will open on May 22, 2025 in the Super Nintendo World section of Epic Universe, along with the rest of the new theme park.

Compare the recent progress above to the photo below, captured just a few weeks ago, prior to the restaurant roof’s paint job.

Toadstool Café

Universal describes Toadstool Café at Epic Universe this way:

Fuel up at Toadstool Café, where you can watch Chef Toad cooking up some of his favorite recipes and see playful scenes of the Mushroom Kingdom through the windows. Enjoy tasty creations prepared daily, including soups, salads, and sandwiches, as well as delicious entrees and delectable desserts.

Versions of Toadstool Café are already open at Universal Studios Hollywood (in California) and Universal Studios Japan (in Osaka). At the latter park, the restaurant is known as Kinopio’s Café.

Though Universal hasn’t revealed the official menu for Toadstool Café at Epic Universe, below are photos of some of the items our publishers tried at the Hollywood park: the Luigi Burger (pesto grilled chicken), Mt. Peanpole Cake, Princess Peach Cupcake, and the Super Star Lemon Squash drink.

More construction updates at Super Nintendo World

Beyond Toadstool Café, construction continues elsewhere throughout Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe. Peach’s castle seems to be more and more pink by the day.

Across the courtyard, Bowser’s castle now displays the villain’s silhouette, as well as an entrance sign with safety regulations and a wait time. Bowser’s castle will serve as the entryway into the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge ride.

Just outside of Super Nintendo World, a fountain depicting Mario’s likeness and gold coins flows with water.

Construction workers continue to make progress on the paint and signage installation for shops Mario Motors and 1-Up Factory, as well as the Turbo Boost Treats snack location.
